The short film “The Follower”—from team building to screening—was created within 48 hours as part of the Instant36 Salzburg Film Festival. It was screened at the ARGEKultur cinema and won the third prize at the festival.
CONTENT
The starting point for this composition was a scenario and a poem:
A new door opens in a person’s life.
They decide to follow a compass that guides them safely and carefully.
But at one point, the person becomes distracted and decides to no longer trust the compass. They now decide to go their own way – without any help. Until the situation comes to a head and the decision has to be reconsidered and questioned.
MUSICAL CONCEPT
The composition attempts to…
…capture different emotions in a sonic and pictorial way
…explore slowness and indicators of speed
…represent an acoustic interplay of spatiality and temporality
…put listening experiences to the test

The individual must be very satisfied.
The individual does not fit into the general mold.
The individual is very special—all alone.
In many places, you hear voices calling out: Humans are terrible.
So, return to yourself? To where there are no other people!
But what, one might ask, if I myself am also a bad person?
Those who bite off a piece of the community,
Those who tear away the common thread of society,
Are they also the ones who retain more of the whole?
The brief departure helps, because now silence has fallen.
There is something greater than human:
the worship of beauty.
May that which encloses everything else—and me –
now take our place with greater dignity.

The Shortfilm „the follower“
Der Kurzfilm „the follower“ – von Teambuilding bis zu Screening – entstand innerhalb von 48 Stunden im Rahmen des Filmfestivals Instant36 Salzburg. Er wurde im ARGEKultur Kino ausgestrahlt und erhielt den 3. Preis des Festivals.
INHALT
Ausgangspunkt dieser Komposition waren ein Szenario und ein Gedicht:
Im Leben eines Menschen öffnet sich eine neue Tür.
Er entscheidet sich, einem Kompass zu folgen, der sicher und sensibel leitet.
Aber an einem Punkt wird der Mensch abgelenkt und entscheidet sich, dem Kompass nicht mehr zu vertrauen. Er entscheidet nun, einen eigenen Weg zu gehen – ganz ohne Hilfe. Solange bis sich die Lage zuspitzt und die Entscheidung neu durchdacht und hinterfragt werden muss.
Der Einzelne muss sehr zufrieden sein.
Das Individuelle fügt sich – in kein Allgemeines ein.
Der Einzelne ist ganz besonders – ganz allein.
Vielerorts hört man die Stimmen rufen: Der Mensch ist schlimm.
Also, Rückkehr zu sich selbst? Dorthin, wo keine andern Menschen sind!
Was aber, mag sich einer fragen, wenn ich selbst – der böse Mensch auch bin?
Was aber, mag sich einer fragen, wenn ich selbst – der böse Mensch auch bin?
Wer ein Stück von der Gemeinschaft –
abbeißt,
Wer den roten Faden von der Gesellschaft –
abreißt,
Ist das auch derjenige, dem mehr vom Ganzen bleibt?
Der kurze Austritt hilft, denn nun ist Stille eingetreten.
Es gibt etwas Größeres als den Menschen:
eine Schönheit anzubeten.
Mag das, was alles andere in sich einschließt – und mich –
nun würdiger, an unsre Stelle treten.
